Are you an Individual  responsible for product evaluation, specifications, and quality control for apparel and textile materials will benefit from attending the AATCC Introduction to Textile Testing Workshop.

  • Have you ever thought of your technicians are conducting AATCC and ASTM tests correctly
  • Have you given a thought why your results seldom correlate to other labs results.
  • Are you wrong or the other lab ?
  • The first step is to identify where the bias lies is to give proper training to your personnel

AATCC conducts special workshops to train you or your personnel, these trainings are available is several countries.

ASTM also conducts certain programs in India.

Workshop instructors will discuss and demonstrate AATCC and ASTM procedures for evaluating textiles. Basic color theory and measurement, as well as fiber identification, will be covered as well. Participants will learn to use the AATCC Gray Scales for Staining and Color Change, the AATCC Chromatic Transference Scale, and Xenon Reference Fabric.

Colorfastness tests to be discussed include : crocking, light, washing, and perspiration.

Tests for evaluating physical properties include dimensional change (home laundering and accelerated methods), water repellency and resistance, and appearance retention. ASTM test methods, D 1424 Tearing Strength of Fabrics by Falling-Pendulum Type; D 3512 Random Tumble Pilling Tester Method; and D 4966 Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics will also be demonstrated and discussed. The workshop will place emphasis on how to properly conduct and interpret the tests.

Past attendees especially liked the inclusion of both AATCC and ASTM test methods in this program. Many mentioned that the "hands-on experience with actual equipment, detailed explanations, and ability to practice what we'd just learned in small groups" was "especially helpful in understanding the test methods and their applications." Limited class size ensures that the workshop remains "well-organized, friendly and informal, with many opportunities to ask detailed questions."

Improving Fiber ID— AATCC Releases Textile Fiber Supplement

A must for any lab involved in Textile fiber identification

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., USA, Tuesday, June 29, 2010—AATCC releases the Textile Fiber Supplement for complete fiber identification and analysis.

Every day, textile technologists, crime labs, and customs agents are faced with identifying fibers from a variety of sources. With more than 30 generic classes of fibers and thousands of trade names, positive and definitive identification can be daunting.

AATCC's Textile Fiber Supplement provides new tools and reference data for fiber identification.

The Supplement is a companion document to AATCC Test Methods 20 (Fiber Identification: Qualitative) and 20A (Fiber Identification: Quantitative). These methods are recognized around the world and are particularly valued for their longitudinal and cross-sectional reference images of more than 60 fiber types.

The supplement adds color, polarized, first-order red plate micrographs; Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) curves; and other resources to aid in identifying both common and novelty fibers.

Information on refractory fibers such as meta-aramids, para-aramids, PBI, and melamine is included. The Supplement also provides guidance for analyzing the structure of metallic fibers.

Fiber sources for the reference material in the Fiber Identification Supplement include standardized and readily-available multifiber fabrics. This means labs can easily check their results against the Supplement data, using the same fibers.

Based on data from the ongoing AATCC Fiber Identification and Analysis Proficiency Program (www.aatcc.org/programs/prof), the Supplement provides a table of interlab variations for quantitative analysis of various fiber blends. This table helps lab personnel understand how much variation may be expected for analysis of a particular blend. Blends with particularly high variability may necessitate additional testing for verification.
