Developed in 2007 by AATCC Committee RA88.
Today we discuss Home Laundering procedures to be followed when testing textile products for their performance to hand laundering procedures.
There has always been some confusion on this area. Some people use the hand wash cycle that is available in certain washer models, some other used a 10 Gallon Pail and do a procedure.
Currently, no standard procedures exist for laboratory duplication of hand laundering of apparel items by consumers.
For this reason, AATCC has established a recommended standard laboratory practice that reflects consumer practice and provides consistent procedures for test repeatability
This standardized hand wash procedure is called the “Standardization of Hand Laundering for Fabrics and Apparel” and is available on page 400 of the Print and PDF versions of the technical manual.
It would be best for all retailers, fabric and Garment buyers and sellers, whose product calls for hand wash procedure to standardize on this AATCC method, so as to create a Global repeatable procedure , so that results do not vary due to the variation in the method used.
More details can be obtained from RA 88 . Please contact me assist@aatcc.org if you want to discuss or debate this method.
