National Textile Association Seeks Comments on Voluntary Product Environmental Profile - VPEP

Posted: 03 June 2009 , IST 4:11

Since October 2008 a working group, made up of dyestuff and chemical suppliers, textile manufacturers, and professional staff of academic institutions and trade associations of the chemical, dyestuffs, and textile industries, convened by the National Textile Association, has been developing a standard format, known as Voluntary Product Environmental Profile (VPEP) to facilitate efficient exchange of data between textile companies and their suppliers of information needed to make informed decisions regarding the environmental impact of textile products and processes.
Use of the reporting format is strictly voluntary, and will be made available in paper form free of charge to industry. The group also intends to develop an electronic database product incorporating the information gathered in the paper form.
The paper form is available in draft form for wider industry evaluation. The VPEP in paper form as a PDF is available along with Instructions.
Your comments and suggestions for improvement to David Trumbull at dtrumbull@nationaltextile.org by July 15, 2009.   A final version will be published later this year in both paper and electronic versions.

Information on Voluntary Product Environmental Profile (VPEP)

Project Overview

Formerly, starting in the late 1990s, there existed a standard format, known as Voluntary Product Environmental Profile (VPEP) that facilitated efficient exchange of data between textile companies and their supplier of information needed to make informed decisions regarding the environmental impact of textile products and processes. In October 2008 the National Textile Association agreed to organize an industry working group with the intention of updating the content of the form as regards the data collected and exchanged to reflect current industry and regulatory needs and to develop an updated method of electronic data exchange.

Participants in this working group, made up of dyestuff and chemical suppliers, textile manufacturers, and professional staff of academic institutions and trade associations of the chemical, dyestuffs, and textile industries, are reminded that this project will be undertaken strictly in conformity with the Antitrust Compliance Policy and that participation is voluntary.
