Oeko News

After a three-month transition period, the new limit values and criteria for testing for harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 became effective on 1 April.

Listed below are some of the main changes:

  • Complete exclusion of the flame retardants hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) and decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE) in all four OEKO-TEX® product classes.
  • Uniform limitation of the problematic phthalates di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalate (DEHP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) to 0.1% of mass content in all four product classes.
  • Samples will be tested for perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanic acid (PFOA) during every certification process.
  • The long existing laboratory testing for extractable heavy metals has been amended by an additional total breakdown of cadmium and lead. An interim regulation for lead in metallic components is valid until the end of 2009.

You can find a detailed information about the new OEKO-TEX® testing criteria – especially with respect to their REACh-compliance – in the "Downloads" section of the OEKO-TEX® web site:
